CVS Health announced that 583 pharmacy and clinic locations in California will immediately being offering Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine boosters to eligible people.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend boosters for people 65 and older who completed their original vaccination at least six months ago, as well as younger people who have underlying medical conditions or work in high-risk occupations. Detailed guidance is available online.
Individuals who initially received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines are not eligible for a booster at this time.
"We have the experience and the infrastructure to play a leading role in administering booster shots to eligible populations," said Troyen A. Brennan, chief medical officer of CVS Health. "We also continue to make it as convenient as possible for the unvaccinated to receive their first doses."
Eligible individuals interested in receiving a booster or their initial vaccine series can make an appointment at CVS.com.
CVS said it has administered more than 34 million COVID-19 vaccines across the country.
