Here are the top stories in Sacramento today: Officers are looking for a hit-and-run driver that killed a woman in South Sacramento on Saturday night. The call came about 8:37 p.m. that a woman had been struck at Stockton Boulevard and Lemon Park Way, police said. When emergency services arrived, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. (KCRA3) A grass fire was sparked near a homeless encampment by Haggin Oaks golf course on Saturday afternoon. The fire was near the Union Pacific train tracks and trains and traffic were stopped as firefighters wrestled with the blaze. The fire burned about two acres, just off Roseville Road and was brought under control by Saturday night. (FOX40) If you park at Sac State, watch your vehicle! Sac State police have seen a rash of stolen vehicles on the campus. They are not releasing details, but vehicles have been stolen from Hornet Commons, Lot 10, Parking Structure 5 and Lot 2, police said. No suspects have been identified. Anyone with information on these thefts or similar incidents should contact the Sacramento State Police Department at 916-278-6000. (FOX40) A jury has convicted a Sacramento man of two violent rapes that occurred in June 2006 and November 2009 according to the Sacramento District Attorney's office. Hawthorne McGee was convicted of the rape of two different 14 year old victims. DNA evidence collected after both of the assaults and rapes has been matched to McGee. McGee faces 45 years to life behind bars and is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 20. (CBS Sacramento)RydeFreeRT, a partnership between the City of Sacramento and SacRT, has been funded and extended for a third year. The program allows youth, K-12, to ride the Sacramento Transit System for free. "RydeFreeRT is a critical piece in supporting our young people and ensuring their success in life," said Councilmember Jay Schenirer, who championed the program. RydeFreeRT was founded in response to a survey conducted by three Sacramento school districts which found that one in four students reported missing at least one day of school during a six-week period because of transportation issues. The program has been a success, seeing increases in student ridership and school attendance. The City Council voted Tuesday to fund the program the needed $750K for the coming year.
