DARIEN, IL — Darien's weekly increase in new coronavirus cases stayed about the same last week, according to the DuPage County Health Department. The last two weeks, the local numbers are the smallest since early August. As of Sunday, Darien had seen 1,968 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 17 in the last week. The week before last, the city experienced 16 new cases. The city's number of coronavirus deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 24. The last two local coronavirus deaths were this month. The deaths work out to about a thousandth of Darien's population. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. The figure compares to 98 in La Grange Park, 103 in DuPage County, 104 in Hinsdale, 106 in Elmhurst, 112 in Clarendon Hills and Western Springs, 113 in suburban Cook County, 115 in Burr Ridge and 132 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands). As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,612,129, up 1.4 percent from a week earlier, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 24,783. Nationally, 42.8 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, up 2 percent from the week before, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 684,884 people have died from the virus in the United States.
