Description
The Great Dane Rescue of Minnesota and Wisconsin’s Sanctuary Program in Siren, WI is looking for an experienced and skilled Kennel Manager to join their expanding program and act as one of the main leads running and developing the Sanctuary program and facility. The Kennel Managers are responsible for daily operations of the kennel and care of the animals kept under their supervision. They must oversee the dogs to ensure that they are properly cared for and the facility grounds stay clean, organized, and safe. The Great Dane Rescue of Minnesota and Wisconsin is invested in talent and development, and will offer additional education and training for qualified candidates. Required Qualifications: • Two-year degree in Animal Science or a related field, or a combination of related education and professional animal wellness experience to equal 4 years • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, and general computer skills • Demonstrated knowledge in animal behavior, animal wellness techniques, and facility management Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Demonstrated prioritization, problem solving and decision-making skills when analyzing and solving complex situations clearly, creatively, and critically • Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills • Ability to demonstrate managerial skills of both clients (dogs) and employees • Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner without general supervision, handling matters expeditiously, proactively and following through on projects to successful completion • Demonstrated experience managing confidential matters with discretion and sensitivity • Commitment to building a program alongside the Rescue Board that provides expert care to both the dogs, volunteers, and surrendering owners Preferred Qualifications: • Experience in one or more of the following fields o Veterinary Technician o Dog Show Handler o Dog Groomer o Dog Walker o Dog Trainer • Animal Welfare education • Knowledge or education in Animal Science • Previous experience in an animal welfare field Duties/Responsibilities: 45% Facility Management • Coordinating and overseeing operations throughout the Sanctuary • Hiring, training, and supervising kennel technicians • Drafting and publishing work schedules • Conduction of performance reviews on 6-month schedules • Developing and enforcing kennel policies and procedures • Partnering with The Rescue Board to produce updated animal profiles, media content, and sanctuary facility updates and needs • Act as a representative on behalf of the Sanctuary 35% Animal Welfare Lead • Overseeing animal care through feeding, watering, grooming, exercise, and nutrition implementation • Behavior observation and modification installation • Developing and installing systems regarding new dog introductions, feeding schedules, medical practices, etc. • Developing and installing a schedule, practice, and documentation of dog enrichment • Continued education in fear, anxiety and aggression-based behavior in animals • Overseeing the organization, cleanliness, and efficiency of kennel facility and sanctuary grounds 15% Administrative Responsibilities • Partnering with The Rescue Board to schedule and document veterinary appointments • Guide owners through the surrender process • Respond to emails within 24 hours • Provide media content to The Rescue Board to be used for advertisement, fundraisers, and social media campaigns • Upkeep of animal records, facility mail, and purchase orders • Bi-yearly policy review and updates 5% Other Essential Duties Assigned Working conditions The position may require the candidate to successfully complete tasks while exposed to a variety of smells and noises.
