found baby snapping turtle

Description

I found a baby snapping turtle approx 1 1/2 - 2 inches long (shell), in the road. Picked one up several weeks ago and relocated him to a nearby creek area, but now the nights are cooler, the days are cooler and he is so small - don't know what to do. I don't want to make a pet out of him, but am concerned about his chances if I put him in that same creek area? Both babies (or is it the same one?!) were attempting to cross the road as if headed to Galloway Creek, but I read that baby snapping turtles will drown in deep water. Any guidance? Thanks!
