Description
This is the 21st Annual Ellis County Veterans Appreciation Ceremony event! Everyone is welcome at this FREE event to honor our veterans! Admission to this ceremony is FREE! It has long been the standard-bearer for how veterans of all military branches should be honored and respected by our society. Many veterans struggle with their transition from military service, while at the same time a large handful also didn't receive a proper welcome home upon their return from combat service. We owe our freedoms to these brave men and women who raised their right hand and swore to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic... and bear true faith and allegiance to the same". We hope that you will join us for this special occasion! Back as our Master of Ceremonies is Ken Roberts from KBEC 1390 radio. The Classic Swing Band, The Reveille Sisters, Singers Casey Needham and Fletcher Jowers, bagpiper Scott Geiger, the Ellis County Marine Corps League Detachment 1452's Honor Guard, and bugler Lane Grayson will be in attendance. The Sequence of Events: 9:30 am - Classic Swing Band Plays (Main Ballroom) 10:00 am - The Ceremony begins The National Anthem will be played along with the Pledge of Allegiance, the Classic Swing Band and the Reveille Sisters will intermittently play various numbers, a Salute to the Armed Forces will occur, and a Tribute to Veterans Present will be played. Following the service inside, everyone will be asked to proceed outside to the Ellis County Veterans Memorial where the wreath will be laid, the Honor Guard from the Ellis County Marine Corps League Detachment 1452 will provide the 3-round volley (known as a 21-gun salute), and Lane Grayson will play TAPS. Directly following this a flyover is scheduled to occur. The members are always looking for new members to join their ranks. Currently serving Marines and veterans, including Navy Fleet Marine Forces (FMF) Chaplains and Corpsmen are eligible to serve within the League's ranks as regular members. Their spouses and any other veterans from other service branches are welcome to contact the Detachment for more information.
