Description

A free medieval tavern event. Do you like Ales, Food, and Revelry?! Then this is the post-pandemic event for you! Caw! Caw! The Raven's Rookery has returned! Originally scheduled during the pandemic year, the Tavern has a new start date. Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, our Tavern is reborn and brighter than ever. The fall's unique tavern dining experience is here. Expect our ever popular house-made sourdough, fresh traditionally made soft pretzels, cheeses, fruits, paprika goulash, and delicious apple pies! Oh, and how could we forget - homebrewed ale! We have two new games for the tables, new treats, new menu items, new drinks - what a way to bring back the Tavern, with so many new things! The Raven's Rookery is part of The Tavern at the Crossroads project which aims to offer a welcoming social setting with simple food, drink, music, and games contained within a medieval thematic setting. We have wooden mugs and horns of ale, tin plates filled with simple hearty meals, house-baked breads, rustic tables games, and the great company of fellow tavern seekers - all while delightful music fills the air. Come take a seat at our tables during the newly scheduled date of October 9, 2021! The menu and ingredients can be found here: https://www.tavernatthecrossroads.com/RavensRookery.html The location of the event will be sent via email when the event nears. Please note: Please only select to attend only one of the Raven's Rookery Events (Sept 11 , Sept 25, Oct 9) so that more people have a chance to attend. FAQ: What happens if California (Alameda County) is still in shelter-in-place orders (yellow, orange, red, purple tier)? If the lockdown is still in place, the event will be postponed until such a time when the Covid-based restrictions have been lifted. Based on State guidance we anticipate that social-distancing, mask policies, etc will no longer be required by government agencies by the time of our event. What is your Covid-19 policy? Will there be social distancing? Will masks be required? This has been a deeply involved question between the 3 of us organizing the event. We have spent parts of the last year discussing the meaning and purpose of our Tavern, and ultimately we came to the following conclusion: Short answer: No. These items will not be in place. Long answer: The purpose of the Tavern is that it is a community event. It's a chance to meet and talk with new people - strangers. The goal is to encourage people to meet, talk, play, and enjoy each other's company in the shared setting of a Medieval-like Tavern. We hope to capture the feel of those Taverns that you read of in books and watch on film. This community feel is just impossible unless we have people sitting at shared tables - in each other's company. All guests will be seated at shared tables. If you still wish to wear a mask, you are more than welcome to do so, but please understand that the Tavern operators will not be wearing masks and many guests may not wear them either. I don't get it. Is this event really free? Am I supposed to bring something? Yes, the event is free! No, don't bring anything! These events are something that we love doing. We love medieval fantasy culture. We love bringing people together. This is something we spend a lot of time thinking about, and want other people to share in that dream too! If the guilt in you is too strong and you wish to support our events, you can certainly leave a tip at the bar. You can also purchase some homemade soaps, incense, or games at our small market table during the tavern or through our website at (https://www.tavernatthecrossroads.com/store/). Do I need to dress up? No. But it's always more fun when you do. In the past, about 50% of people were "normal" clothing. Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? 21+ and ID are required due to the presence of ale. How can I contact the organizer with any questions? Please contact via email at: [email protected] or through facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/TavernAtTheXroads/ Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends? Yes.   Where are you located? Our tavern is located outdoors on a residential property in Hayward, CA. The event is well decorated to capture the tavern feel. The location helps us keep costs down. Please see the additional FAQ for more information. Additional FAQ https://www.tavernatthecrossroads.com/FAQ.html Tavern at the Crossroads is a project designed to create a unique social experience that is reminiscent of taverns referenced in various literature: The Prancing Pony (LotR), The Green Dragon Inn (LotR), Crossroads Inn (ASOIAF), The Eolian (KKC), Inn of the Last Home (DLC), Goldshire Inn (WoW), Hogs Head Inn (HP), The Winespring Inn (WoT). The tavern is consistently a focal point in heroic literature, where it is used as a place-setting and catalyst to drive the story. It helps facilitate the immersion into the world. Perhaps, it is because, in any fantastical adventure, the tavern is a haven that can seem familiar and comforting. The Tavern is a place where locals come to lay down their burdens, socialize with neighbors and coworkers or conduct business dealings. It may provide sanctuary where wanderers can hide from prying eyes, adventurers may find rest, and townsfolk can take refreshment through simple food & drink. Within the Tavern, your Journey may come to an end, or perhaps it is just beginning. The Tavern at the Crossroads project aims to have a seasonal party (spring, summer, fall) where a small group of villagers (10-16 people) gather to play tavern games, drink, and share a meal. The event is located in Hayward, CA.Our goal is to create an authentic tavern experience to escape an ever-more daunting, busy & demanding world. By providing a refuge in a world of ever-increasing anonymity and facade-ridden social media, the Tavern at the Crossroads aims to offer a welcoming social setting with simple food, drink, music, and games contained within a thematic setting. Thus, fostering an experience in which friends and strangers can interact in close proximity to wind down at the end of a long season or to kick off the beginning of a new one.Ultimately, the tavern is a "living experiment" that is expected to evolve and grow based on participants' involvement and feedback. We encourage and request your feedback about the event. What would you like to see in the future? What would give the experience a more involved, immersed, community feel?
