Together We Serve is an event serving all of Dallas-Fort Worth's Veterans and First Responders with resources, food and fun! Note: If you cannot attend this event and want to be emailed the vendor resources from this event please email Mallory Morris at [email protected] The Dallas Police Department in partnership with the Texas Veterans Land Board, VA North Texas Health Care System, and Dallas County Veterans Services is inviting all Military Veterans, First Responders, Active Military Servicemembers, and Spouses to a one-day Benefits & Resource Fair. The Frontiers of Flight Museum at Love Field is hosting this event and the following groups will be presenting in the Hamilton Family Auditorium and possibly provide face-to-face discussions in the Mezzanine area. VA North Texas Health Care System – No organization understands health conditions and illness directly related to military service better than VA. Providing quality, patient centered, health care services to those who have borne the battle is a noble mission, and Veterans who so honorably served this Nation deserve no less. VA North Texas provides comprehensive health services through primary, tertiary and long-term care in many areas, including medicine, surgery, mental health and rehabilitation. With headquarters in Dallas, other facilities are located in Bonham, Fort Worth, Tyler and Plano as well as five community-based outpatient clinics. Texas Veterans Land Board – Have you ever thought of owning your own piece of property or home? Do you need to do a home improvement project but do not have all the funds? Stop by this booth to learn some very important information that can help you start your American dream! The VLB serves Active Duty, National Guard, Reservists and Veterans. If you have a disability rating with the VA of 30% or more you definitely want to come by this table! The VLB also offers veterans with no family free funerals with full honors and has state of the art nursing homes all over Texas reserved for veterans, their spouses and Gold Star parents. You only have to live in Texas one day to be eligible for our programs! Come learn about the best kept secret in Texas! Dallas County Veterans Services – Your Dallas County Veterans Services Office can help you file claims with the VA, work on your disability and more. We are here to help you so that you do not have to fight this alone! Dallas Vet Center – Vet Centers are community-based counseling centers that provide a wide range of social and psychological services, including professional readjustment counseling to eligible Veterans, active-duty service members, including National Guard and Reserve components, and their families. Readjustment counseling is offered to make a successful transition from military to civilian life or after a traumatic event experienced in the military. Individual, group, marriage and family counseling is offered in addition to referral and connection to other VA or community benefits and services. Vet Center counselors and outreach staff, many of whom are Veterans themselves, are experienced and prepared to discuss the tragedies of war, loss, grief and transition after trauma. Patriot Paws - The mission of Patriot PAWS is to train and provide service dogs of the highest quality at no cost to disabled American veterans and others with mobile disabilities in order to help restore their physical and emotional independence. Patriot PAWS intends to build partnerships with state and community organizations to help develop and support this goal. Valor Ranch - Valor Ranch is the brainchild of a widow, mother, daughter, sister, and granddaughter of veterans, who has teamed up with Veteran Service Organizations and the community. Valor Ranch focuses on a holistic approach to empower our nation’s female veterans. Each veteran is housed in her own cottage on the ranch. She will also share in activities such as cooking, gardening, and tending to the animals to support the ranch population as a whole. Additionally, the SHERO will participate in group, one-on-one, equine therapy, budgeting, cooking classes, as well as volunteering in the community in order to enhance her life skills and increase her self-worth. Military Order of the Purple Heart - MOPH fosters an environment of goodwill and camaraderie among combat wounded veterans, promote patriotism, support necessary legislative initiatives, and most importantly, provide service to all veterans and their families. Its national programs include: a Service Program to help with VA claims, a Youth Activities Program, Veterans Affairs Volunteer Services, Scholarships, Americanism Program, Purple Heart Trail, First Responder Program, and a Ladies Auxiliary Program. DFW National Cemetery - The Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery was dedicated and opened for burials on May 12, 2000. The cemetery is situated on a 638.5-acre parcel of land that overlooks picturesque Mountain Creek Lake. The gently rolling hills provide a pastoral setting for visitors as they proceed along the central boulevard to the small lake adjacent to the assembly area and committal shelters. Burial in a national cemetery is open to all members of the armed forces who have met a minimum active duty service requirement and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable. A Veteran's spouse, widow or widower, minor dependent children, and under certain conditions, unmarried adult children with disabilities may also be eligible for burial. Eligible spouses and children may be buried even if they predecease the Veteran. Members of the reserve components of the armed forces who die while on active duty or who die while on training duty, or were eligible for retired pay, may also be eligible for burial. Veterans of Foreign Wars – Most of you have had a relative who belonged to a VFW or have heard of this organization, but do you know all the good that this organization can provide you? Come check out how the VFW is not just your grandpa’s hangout anymore. The VFW is not only there for camaraderie, but it raises money to help other veterans in need and scholarships. It has family-oriented events and will even help you with your VA disability claims! Spouses and descendants of veterans are welcome to join the Auxiliary who do important work in the community as well! Come find out which post is closest to you! Veterans Freedom Retreat - The Veterans Freedom Retreat is a week-long retreat for veterans and their partners where you’ll begin your journey to being free from the stress of past traumas. American Legion - The American Legion embraces all current and former members of the military and endeavors to help them transition into their communities. Just like the VFW, the American Legion is not to be considered as one of those old-time war hangouts. Chapters all over the DFW area give back in their community through philanthropy- and fundraising. Other great programs under the American Legion are the Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion and the Legion Riders. Come find out which post is closest to you! Texas Veterans Commission Women Veterans Program – Calling all our females who have served! TVC Women’s Veterans Program’s mission is to ensure that you, the women veterans of Texas, have equitable access to federal and state veterans’ benefits and services. The Texas Veterans Commission Women Veterans Program serves to educate and inform women veterans of their benefits and services, and advocate on their behalf by creating public awareness, recognizing and honoring women veterans and identifying needs and making legislative recommendations. Texas Veterans Commission – The TVC is the largest state agency serving veterans and can help you with employment and education! Are you a business owner? Lone Star Warriors - We are a Tier 1 501c3 USA Disabled Warrior Hockey Organization called the Lone Star Warriors. We are dedicated to helping veterans heal through the sport of hockey. We partner with many local and national charities to help bring awareness about the struggles soldiers go through with disabilities and how our organization helps them overcome these issues. Currently, we work closely with the Dallas Star’s Foundation, Dallas P.D. Hockey, Dallas Fire Hockey, The United Heroes League, The Dallas Stars Alumni, and many more. Our organization is the Tier 1 team that is associated with the Dallas Warriors which has over 115 disabled veterans playing and competing in national tournaments, local charity events, and leagues throughout Dallas. Military Veteran Peer Network - The Military Veteran Peer Networks' mission is to establish camaraderie and trust with each other, identifying and vetting community resources and, collectively, contributing to the communities where we live. The network connects veterans and their families to local, state, and national resources through an active group of veteran peers. As a member, you can meet other vets, get help and support, and find resources. No disability or discharge requirements needed to get MVPN resources! Stop by our table to connect with the counselor nearest you! New Hope Ranch – At New Hope, we understand that our first responders need specialized care. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), music therapy and family therapy are just a sampling of the services provided at the ranch. The Veterans’ Program is a unique program and is tailored to help veterans on the road to recover from alcohol and substance use, as well as reintegrate into their community. With the backdrop of the ranch, personalized treatment plans and a range of therapies, the Veterans Program gives hope to heroes. 1 Tribe Foundation (formerly known as 22Kill) – Originally beginning as a community to raise awareness and combating suicide by empowering veterans, 1 Tribe Foundation now has expanded their network into including first responders, medical frontline workers and their families through traditional and non-traditional therapies. 1 Tribe’s purpose is to restore the value of lie through awareness, empowerment, and engagement. Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic - The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Metrocare provides quality, accessible, and comprehensive mental health care to post-9/11 veterans, service members, and their families. Services are available to any person who has served in the U.S. Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves, regardless of role or discharge status. The Cohen Clinic at Metrocare uses evidenced-based practices with a holistic approach to improve the quality of life for our veterans, service members, and their families. Services are provided by trained and credentialed staff with military cultural competency. The Cohen Clinic also helps to connect veteran and military families to community resources and services, as necessary, through its case management services. UT Southwest Center for Brain Health – Come learn about the latest science and techniques being used in the medical field to treat illnesses such as depression, anxiety, PTSD and more. UT Southwestern Medical Center is ranked the No. 1 hospital in Texas for neurology and neurosurgery and is among the nation’s top 20 hospitals for neurological care according to the 2021-2022 U.S. News & World Report. Come check out what the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute has to offer as it brings transformative research and patient-centered care to improve the lives of patients today and those of generations to come. Warrior Spirit Project – Come learn about finding your inner peace! The Warrior Spirit Project’s mission is to bolster purpose and strengthen the spirit of Veterans and First Responders (Warriors) through Yoga, Dogs and Dirt, offering tools for resilience, growth and meaningful community engagement. Heroes on the Water - Heroes on the Water, a 501(c)(3) veterans’ charity, creates alternative wellness programs to serve veterans, active-duty military personnel, first responders and their families. The primary proven therapy utilized by Heroes on the Water is kayaking. No experience or equipment is needed, and kayak fishing is adaptive to those with disabilities. Carrollton Springs - Help for Heroes® provides treatment and therapy specifically geared for people who routinely face trauma, physical and mental stress, and life-threatening situations. We offer many paths to recovery, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment, substance abuse treatment, and medication management. But our programs are a lot more than that. They’re a chance to connect with others who are learning to cope with similar circumstances. America’s Defenders Foundation - America's Defenders Foundation was created in 2016 as a 501(c)(3) organization. The sole purpose of AmDef is to support the service of our nation's law enforcement and disabled veterans. Badge of Honor - Healing our First Responders - It is possible to recover from PTSI, because it's an injury and not a permanent disorder. John, Samantha, and Jeff have all been there. They understand the STIGMA that goes along with asking for help. They've also experienced the FREEDOM from "breaking through" the STIGMA and finding the help they needed to survive. They are here to help you. NAMI Frontline Wellness - NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, supports and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raise awareness and build a community for hope for all of those in need. NAMI North Texas understands that having a mental health condition not only affects the individual diagnosed, but also those who play a crucial role in the individual's life. We extend our services to family members, friends, loved ones, local community and mental health professionals. Every entity of an individual's support network should be actively involved in the treatment process. Receiving a diagnosis is only the first step toward recovery. Collaboration, advocacy and education support recovery. 3 For the Love - 3FTL is a 501c3 non-profit organization, located in Dallas TX, with a focus on mental health management and support systems for First Responders who have various types of mental illness, specifically anxiety, depression and PTSD. "Supporting Those Who Serve Us Everyday" Our Watch – Our Watch is a non-profit organization that provides equine assisted wellness and resiliency training for first responders and their families. The constant exposure to trauma, threat and high stress for First Responders is unique, and if not managed effectively can lead to anxiety, irritability, detachment, and alienation; all of which can significantly impact relationships, coping styles, productivity, and overall functioning. It is our goal to provide a program that fosters understanding, awareness, and connection utilizing the incredible energy and relationships with the horses. The Texas Legislature created the Veterans Land Board (VLB) as part of the Texas General Land Office (GLO) in 1946 to help Veterans returning to Texas after World War II to buy land. The VLB has expanded over the years to offer additional loan programs and services to Veterans and Military Members. The mission of the VLB is to ensure that we offer the very best package of Veterans benefits in the country and those of us who work for the VLB strive to meet those goals every day. For more than 70 years, we have had the honor to serve Veterans, Military Members, and their families in Texas, and we look forward to keeping that promise in the years to come.
