BOSTON — With only a few weeks to go before the November 2 elections, Boston's acting mayor Kim Janey says she endorses Michelle Wu for the position. In this historic election, Mayor Janey says Wu is the best candidate for the city to build on her own record of equity and justixe. Janey and Wu have both shared similar views on issues relating to justice, housing stability, and transit. The City of Boston has never elected a woman or person of color for Mayor, and this Nov. 2, that will all change, as both mayoral candidates are women. Wu's parents immigrated to the U.S. from Taiwan, and Annissa Essaibi George describes herself as a first-generation Arab Polish-American. Acting Mayor Kim Janey is the first Black woman to occupy the Boston position, replacing former Mayor Marty Walsh, who resigned this year to become President Joe Biden's labor secretary. City councilor Wu won Sept. 14's preliminary vote, with Essaibi George right behind her, both beating out Janey.
