First, today's weather: Clear throughout the day. High: 81 Low: 54. Here are the top stories in Sacramento today: Sacramento is home to a large Afghan community and it is opening its arms to a disproportionate amount of Afghan refugees who are fleeing their country. The generosity of the Sacramento community is on show once again as many Airbnb hosts open their doors to these Afghans in need of a free stay while they settle into their new life. So far 140 refugees have found homes through the Airbnb program and the need is expected to grow as refugees start moving off of military bases and into our communities. Airbnb has said it will be able to offer 40,000 refugees temporary homes all across the world due to the generosity of its host network. It is still looking for hosts willing to open their doors to the refugees. (FOX40) California's legislature has approved two bills, that if signed by Governor Newsom would allow California's outdoor dining model to continue beyond the pandemic. There has been no widespread opposition to either bill. If approved by the governor the bills would extend the current regulatory moratoriums for several years and allow restaurants to make more creative use of their outdoor spaces, including for dining and preparing food outdoors. (ABC10) Officers arrested 25-year-old Raul Jimenez in connection with a homicide that happened on Friday in the area of Northgate Park. Detectives believe there was an altercation that escalated into a homicide at the park. The park has since been reopened. Police are not identifying the victim until next of kin have been notified. (KCRA3) Customers at Vegan Deadly Sins restaurant were shocked on Friday as an armed man smashed in windows in the front of the restaurant right where some patrons were eating. The man left and then returned again to smash even more windows. Thankfully, no one was injured. The incident was caught on camera and the suspect was detained and charged. The restaurant is so beloved that customers set up a GoFundMe to help with repairs, but restaurant owners say that's not necessary. They just need their customers to keep coming in so the restaurant can keep feeding them. They hope business won't be hurt by the violence. (CBS Sacramento) A statue of Father Junipero Serra was toppled last year on the grounds of the Capitol building in Sacramento. Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law on Friday to replace it with a memorial for the state's Native Americans. Assemblyman James Ramos, a Democrat from Highland and a member of the Serrano/Cahuilla tribe, authored the bill that would erect the memorial. The law would allow tribal nations to plan, construct and maintain the monument. But it could be awhile before the monument is built. The law says the tribes need permission from the Joint Rules Committee before they can begin construction. The committee has imposed an unofficial moratorium on new memorials until the Department of General Services develops a master plan for the Capitol Park grounds.
