PITTSBURGH, PA — If coffee drinking was an Olympic sport, Pittsburgh would be well-represented in Beijing in February.
The personal finance website WalletHub has released a study of the best coffee cities in America for 2021 and Pittsburgh ranked fifth nationwide - no small feat in a country where 62 percent of the people drink the beverage every day, according to a recent National Coffee Association study.
The only cities to finish ahead of us were Portland, Seattle, San Francisco and Orlando.
To determine which cities were the best for the java inclined, WalletHub compared the 100 largest
cities across 12 key metrics of coffee lover-friendliness. Among them were coffee shops, coffee house and cafes per capita, the average price per pack of coffee and highest average spending on coffee per household.
Information was compiled from the U.S. Census Bureau, Council for Community and Economic Research, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Numbeo, Google Trends, Yelp, Caffeine Crawl, Coffee Fest and Specialty Coffee Association.
Here's how Pittsburgh ranked in several key categories
2nd: Coffee shops, coffee houses and cafes per capita. 17th: Average price of a cappuccino. 30th: Doughnut shops per capita. 47th: Percentage of adults who reported drinking "ready to drink" coffee in the past six months. 53rd: Average price per pack of coffee. See the entire study here.
