City of Portland MECHANIC III Public Works Department – Fleet Services – Up to $2,500 Sign on Bonus Available Schedule to be Monday thru Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Department of Public Works seeks a skilled individual who will perform general service, overhaul and repair work on light and heavy-duty trucks and other automotive and mechanical equipment with a focus on heavy-duty. Requires knowledge of diagnosis, operation of gasoline and diesel engines, and standard practices of the mechanic trade; Must possess valid Maine Class B driver’s license (Class A desired) or have ability to obtain within six (6) months (must provide license number); must possess valid Vehicle Inspection License A, D & E (can be willing to obtain within 6 months) and must provide copies of license. Successful applicants must pass pre-employment medical exam and fitness assessment and pass federally mandated drug test and must have and maintain a good driving record. Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check and positive reference check. Assignment and pay grade will be based on inspection license status, skills and license status. Pay range starting at $913.60/week, plus an additional $.25/hr. for each ASE up to $2.00.
