We, as a nation, cannot allow this to ever happen again.

Trust in expertise, government, the media, and it`s institutions collapsed, WHY? Denmark is beating COVID. The Danish government recently announced the virus is no longer a "critical threat" there, and lifted its vaccination and mask requirements for indoor activities. Denmark's death toll per million citizens over the course of the pandemic is just 22 percent of the U.S.'s, and daily deaths there have fallen to under 10. Our deaths are again running at more than 2,000 a day. Why the huge difference? Trust. 90 percent of Danes trust their national health authorities and public decision makers, The Washington Post reported this week. As a result, 86 percent of eligible Danes have been vaccinated. In the U.S., trust in expertise, government, the media, and institutions has collapsed. A society cannot function without a basic level of trust. The credibility void is filled with disinformation, conspiracy theories, cynicism, division, and resentment. In red states, the unvaccinated are flooding overwhelmed hospitals. Meanwhile, in Denmark, crowds are flocking to concerts and bars to celebrate their freedom. Divided, we fall. In his own way, Trump warned us this would be happening. And worse, every time he revealed that he in fact was a traitor or that those around him supported his betrayals, Trump was not penalized. He was not held accountable. He was not required to answer for his crimes. He was actually rewarded by his base with more rabid support. Trump's Covid lies were a tragedy. Were they also a crime? Trump’s lies about Covid very likely killed Americans. Trump — along with any other person who conspired with him to intentionally mislead Americans about the pandemic — should be held fully accountable. Anything less is not only an insult to the memory of all those lost to Covid-19, but it also potentially gives future presidents a green light to intentionally lie to the American public about deadly risks in the future.
