Warehouse Operator/Order Selector SUMMARY Receive, select, prepare, stage, check and double check and build pallet orders. Load outbound product to customer and private fleet vehicles. Move inbound product/packaging materials from trailer or staging area and locate in the correct temperature or storage area. Maintain the warehouse inventory as regards condition and location. Warehouse Operators are under the general supervision of the Warehouse Supervisor. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES • Safety: Operators must understand and follow all company food safety, general safety and security policies. Each member must be responsible for any unsanitary condition caused by his or her own work performed and be able to clean and sanitize whenever necessary. Attends and participates in food safety training classes. Fill out and complete any necessary food safety documents. • Inbound: Inspect all inbound trailers for cleanliness prior to unloading. Insure chocks are in place as needed. Unload truck only after ensuring that inbound shipping requirements are being fulfilled. Receive/Inspect all products as to company guidelines and product specifications. Communicate findings to Warehouse Supervisor, Warehouse Manager and Buyer when issues arise. Fill out the paperwork required for QC, and then call the Buyer to check and agree with the defect summary. Move inbound product/packaging materials from trailer or staging area and locate in the correct temperature or storage area. Complete all necessary Food Safety Forms. Receive product into the computer systems. Ensure that product is received and labeled with company coding labels. • Quality Check (Inspections) when shipping: Warehouse Operator will be trained to perform quality checks. Inspect all outbound product for quality as per Company guidelines (packaging integrity, correct labels, appearance, quality.) Fill out the paperwork required for QC, and then call the Supervisor to check and agree with the defect summary written down. Communicate results of the quality checks to Warehouse Supervisor. • Outbound: Select product and/or build pallets to customer’s requirements for shipping using pick lists; stage for loading (stretch wrap, labels, temperature shrouds, temperature recorders, etc.) Prepare packaging items for use. Perform quality checks. Double check orders for lot identification, quantity and labeling information. Assist prep room operators as needed. • Cleanliness: Keep warehouse coolers, docks, and staging areas at food level cleanliness. Clean spills, standing water, pallet shards or any foreign object from floor immediately. Place “caution cones” as needed. Clean and sanitize equipment following company food safety guidelines. Each Operator must understand and follow company guidelines with respect to pallet storage. • Repacking: Follow repacking & handling procedures whenever doing repack work or in repack room. Ensure that all finished product meets company specifications and that all food safety policies are in effect and being observed. • Paperwork: Fill out/sign and complete pick lists and work order sheets. Complete all Food Safety documents as needed. • Inventory: Maintain accurate counts of quantity and product identification for both inbound and outbound. Correctly locate product in the proper rack and refrigerated storage area. Perform cycle counts/recounts of inventory quantity as directed, and submit corrections. • Timeliness: Must be punctual. Be aware of scheduled times for outbound loads, and work to achieve these goals. Communicate any issues relating to timeliness of delivery to supervisor. • Procedures: Follow warehouse and company procedures, company safety rules and food safety and security program. Bring unsafe conditions/actions to the attention of supervisor. • Communicate: Seek selection, loading, put-away or other assignments from supervision for prompt action. Communicate with other Warehouse Operators, Receivers, Manager and Supervisor. Note opportunities for improvement and communicate these as appropriate. • Teamwork: Help other personnel when appropriate – with a task that needs two or with instructional information or with location problems (if you know a product’s location.) Support the supervisor and the rest of the team to accomplish department objectives in customer service, accuracy, and productivity. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills – English and Spanish • Certification in both Forklift and Electric Pallet Jack • Knowledge of safe pallet handling and lifting techniques • Manual dexterity for operating machinery • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds safely • Produce experience and knowledge of customer requirements. • Valid California Driver License free of major traffic violations. WORKING CONDITIONS Normal warehouse and production environment – working in refrigerated environment.
