MASTER GARDENER Mauna Kai Condominiums, Princeville, HI REPORTS TO: Facilities Manager SEASONAL OR NON-SEASONAL: Non-Seasonal and Non-benefited FLSA STATUS: Part-time, Hourly, and Non-Exempt PAY RATE: $22/hour POSITION SUMMARY: Performs landscaping to maintain safe and attractive grounds throughout the Mauna Kai Condominium complex. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Master Gardener certification or demonstrated equivalent experience required. Must be intimately familiar with the needs and requirements of tropical plants. Must have a valid driver’s license. Ability to follow directions and complete assignments. Ability to safely operate various types of power equipment including trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping equipment. Ability to work independently in close coordination with the facilities manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain grounds, pathways, and pool area with a neat appearance Maintain flowers, bushes, trees, and shrubs native and tropical.. Recognizes disease and insect problems of woody and herbaceous plants and performs pest control operations using natural remedies. Spread mulch, plants, and propagate bedding plants. Trim bushes, shrubs, and hedges as needed. Rake leaves and pull weeds as needed. Assist with hydration of lawns, trees, and plants using hoses, watering cans or irrigation systems. Adheres to all safety policies and procedures as prescribed by Mauna Kai Employee Handbook, OSHA and MIOSHA. Maintains tools and equipment as needed for landscaping. Relates positively with diverse groups of people (guests, staff and residents). OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Complies with all Mauna Kai Employee Handbook policies and procedures. Keeps the Facilities Manager informed of the status of the complex grounds and equipment daily. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: N/A PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: Ability to work a flexible schedule preferred. Ability to read, speak and write English in order to fulfill job functions in an understandable way. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Ability to physically operate power equipment. Ability to maneuver stairs, climb ladders, trees and any other high work places using applicable safety procedures. Ability to regularly lift and carry 50 pounds at a time. Ability to stand, walk, stretch, bend, reach, climb, and/or balance for extended periods
