Description

Join First-Year Seminars and Common Question for a FREE screening/discussion of the movie Black Panther! Come for the movie, stay for the conversation! Join First-Year Seminars students for a special screening of Black Panther at the beautiful SNF Parkway Theatre on Thursday, September 30th at 6pm. The movie will be followed by a discussion of this year's Common Question -- "What is Progress?" -- with Hopkins PhD students Atsede Makonnen and Bryan Carter. Transportation will be provided from Homewood to the theater and back. This event is free for all Hopkins undergrads. Atsede Makonnen is a doctoral candidate in English at Hopkins whose scholarship ranges from Othello to 19th-century British portraiture to Marvel comics. Bryan Carter is a doctoral candidate in Political Science at Hopkins whose research interests include black politics, race and capitalism, the criminal legal system, and American political development. Transportation Details Getting to the Parkway Theatre from Homewood: The JHMI Shuttle departs every 10 minutes from the Barnes and Noble Stop. See times here. The closest stop to the Parkway Theatre is the St. Paul Street at North Avenue Stop when coming from Barnes and Nobles. Getting back to Homewood from the Parkway Theatre: Direct shuttles from the Parkway Theatre to the Beach loop are available for all students after the event ends at 8:45pm. What is Common Question (CQ)? Each year, CQ poses one big question to the Hopkins community, curates a set of relevant sources, and creates spaces for conversation. But instead of exploring our question through a single source, CQ expands our aperture to investigate sources from natural science, social science, and humanistic and creative perspectives. CQ host events around the Hopkins community to encourage students and faculty to seek out challenging conversations and questions that inspire them.
