Description
In this botanical workshop you will learn easy techniques to create your own silk scarf from kitchen scraps, flowers and natural pigments. Have you been wanting to learn how to create your own natural dyed item? In this botanical dyeing workshop, you will learn skills that you can apply to any natural fiber items and then grow your own DIY library of knowledge. We will cover the basics of mordants. *Each item will be premordanted before the workshop. You will learn what items in your kitchen can be saved for botanical dyeing and then you will make your own square silk scarf from supplied flowers and pigments. Part of the workshop will be a small lecture while the items are steaming so come prepared with questions and curiosity! You will leave with your own dyed scarf and your knowledge to carry to the next project. Items supplied during workshop include: 22” square silk scarf, various dried flowers, pigment and kitchen scraps and items needed to bundle up your scarf for steaming during workshop. Writing items will be provided for note taking. If you purchase the silk face mask, you can choose to create at the same time or take home to dye with the knowledge from the workshop. Limited spaces available for individual instruction and to permit Covid safety. —————————————————— About your host Moca Monterrubio is the Textile Designer and Hand Dyer behind Mokiimonster Designs. She loves talking color, pigment history and how fascinating birds can be as an influence on our color palette. Discovery is a big part of what makes a lot of creative people excited. Moca is a life long learner and enjoys teaching others what she has uncovered. If this also sounds like you, stay tuned and follow along for more workshops. At Mokiimonster, we hand dye everything from clothing to accessories and home items to baby onesies. We started out wanting to bring color to life on fabric and fell in love with the history of pigment intertwined with who we are as humans. We call it Death and Color because everything is a cycle. We started sowing seeds for a dye garden this year, to grow them and bring them to life in the work we do as color pigment on fiber. It’s pretty exciting to be both our process and purpose. We are excited to share it with you via teaching and workshops.
