Description
Wakefield state legislators Senator Jason Lewis and Representatives Kate Lipper-Garabedian and Donald Wong announced that Wakefield Public Schools were selected for a Summer Acceleration Academy Grant from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
The Summer Acceleration Academy Grant, a one-time grant, provides funding to school districts to implement Early Literacy Academies (for K-2) and Math Academies (for grades 3-5). These programs and grants are designed to accelerate the learning of students most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"All students deserve access to a high quality education and unfortunately we know that the pandemic has severely disrupted their learning," said Senator Jason Lewis. "I'm very pleased that both our state and federal governments are providing additional financial resources to the Wakefield public schools to help students recover this learning loss and support their health and well-being."
"As a former seventh grade teacher and a parent to two young boys, including one third grader, I congratulate the Wakefield Public Schools on receiving state grant funding for an initiative essential for our students during this challenging time" said Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian. "This grant provided critical funding to support the ongoing delivery of academic programming during a summer that followed two disrupted school years."
In sum, Wakefield Public Schools have received more than $2.1 million in state and federal grants this fiscal year.
