Plymouth Protestors Push To End All Immigrant Detention

PLYMOUTH, MA — Local activists will march Thursday night to rally for the demand to end the county's detention of immigrants. Less than two weeks ago, the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office ended its 287(g) agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement - an agreement that allowed law enforcement officers to act as immigration agents. The decision to end the 287(g) agreement came after Massachusetts residents had planned to protest the ICE facility the day before, but rescheduled to the week after due to rain. Thursday night, local activists are marching from the site of Eurpoeans' first unauthorized settlement in North America to Plymouth County's immigrant detention center, connecting the two. Specifically, participants will call for the end of immigration detention at the Plymouth County Jail and the release rather than transfer of people in ICE detention. "Our call to action is to reunite families like my own who have suffered by the indiscriminate and inhumane practices and conditions of facilities like PCCF. My husband has been detained for over 2 years and transferred to multiple facilities. Our children deserve to have their father home. Families deserve to be together. Cancel the contracts, free them all," says Allison Andrade-Cullen. The march will take place Thursday, Sept. 23 starting at 5:30 p.m. at Plymouth Rock, then continuing at 7 p.m. at Plymouth County Jail.
