The ALDOT 2021 Entrepreneurial Development Institute (EDI) is a 2-Day intensive event offering Construction-related Certifications. On October 19 – 21, 2021, the University of West Alabama (UWA) and Alabama A&M University (AAMU) DBE Supportive Services will co-host the Alabama Department of Transportation's 2021 DBE Entrepreneurial Development Institute (EDI) at The Renaissance in Montgomery, AL. THIS IS AN IN-PERSON EVENT! This NO COST 2-day intensive event offers DBEs the opportunity to become certified under one of the following tracks:  TRACK ONE: OSHA 10 (for Construction)Certification Course - This certification course will utilize OSHA policies, procedures, standards , safety and health principles as a guide for the construction industry. Students receive DOL OSHA issued student course completion cards. After successfully completing this training, students will receive a certificate of completion.  TRACK TWO: QCI/Stormwater Certification Course (TENTATIVE) - This certification course will provide participants with training in storm water pollution regulations and requirements.  TRACK THREE: QuickBooks Level 1 Certification Course - This certification course will provide participants with an introduction to QuickBooks in addition to fundamental accounting concepts and terms.  TRACK FOUR: ATSSA Certified Flagger Training w/Workzone Safety Course (TENTATIVE) - This certification course will provide participants with the opportunity to become trained and responsible flaggers thereby enhancing traffic safety for workers, drivers, and other road users.  TRACK FIVE: Construction Bidding and Estimating/Project Management Course - This course will provide attendees with an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of estimating, bidding, and project management for DOT and Public Works Infrastructure type construction. Work scopes covered may include but are not limited to: Trucking/Hauling, Silt Fence Installation, Concrete Flat Work, Placing Aggregate Base, Clearing and Grubbing, Topsoil Removal and Placement, Erosion Control Matting, and Small Drainage Structures. Registration/Hotel Check-in: Tuesday, October 19, 2021 (4:30pm - 6:30pm) Day One: Wednesday, October 20, 2021 (7:00am - 4:00pm; Networking Reception, 5:00pm - 7:00pm) Day Two/Hotel Check-out: Thursday, October 21, 2021 (7:00am - 2:00pm) *Complimentary Lodging will be provided on a first come first served basis to DBEs traveling from 75 miles or greater to the meeting location.
