EAST HAVEN, CT — East Haven Police Union Local 275 is backing incumbent Democrat Mayor Joseph A. Carfora for reelection.
"The East Haven Police Union Local 275 is proud to announce that they have endorsed Mayor Joseph A. Carfora for his 2021 Re-Election Bid," a statement emailed to Patch reads.
"Over the last two years, Mayor Carfora has made public safety a top priority and is a true partner in our effort to provide the residents of the Town of East Haven with the best public safety services they need and deserve," the union wrote, adding that in his two years in office he has:
Increased manpower and supervisionInvested in much needed protective equipment, including Active Shooter gear.Revitalized the S.R.O. programSupported the addition of a third K-9, making the EHPD K-9 program completeUpgraded the Town's EOC infrastructure. Made much needed improvements to the police department grounds.Upgraded police firearms. Carfora told Patch he felt privileged to have received the union's support.
"I am honored and I deeply appreciate this endorsement," Carfora said in a statement issued to Patch. "From the minute I was sworn in, I have been committed to supporting our police and fire departments."
Carfora said that he is "committed" to standing by police.
"I pledge that our police will always have the tools to effectively do their job and be appropriately trained, since they put their lives on the line every day," he said. "It is a commitment I will never walk away from."
