ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Police escorted the body of U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Darin Taylor to Arlington National Cemetery on Friday morning, according to a post on the department's official Twitter account. On Monday, area police and firefighters participated in a symbolic procession around the Iwo Jima Memorial. Hoover was one of the 11 Marines killed, along with one Army soldier and one Navy sailor, during the Aug. 26 suicide bombing at Afghanistan's Kabul airport, according to the Associated Press. The bombing killed more than 160 Afghans and injured 18 other U.S. service members, in what U.S. officials called the most lethal day for American forces in Afghanistan since 2011. Police from Arlington and Fairfax counties invited members of the public who wished to pay their respects to Taylor to gather on any of the overpasses along Route 50 in Arlington Friday morning.
