ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — It's not over yet, Essex County. As of Friday, coronavirus spread remains "high" in the county, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It's a status that's lingered for weeks, despite a 69.4 percent vaccination rate among the county's eligible population. Essex County officials have been releasing cumulative COVID-19 totals for each town and city, noting that their daily report may not match state or municipal totals, and places of residence may change after investigation. Livingston was one of five, county-run centers offering COVID-19 vaccines before officials closed three of them amid a dip in demand. Read More: County Announces Big Changes At Its COVID Vaccine Sites Essex County also currently operates coronavirus vaccine and testing sites in Newark and West Orange. They offer walk-in appointments to anyone who lives, works or attends school in the county. As of Friday, each site had hundreds of available appointments, including booster shots, and had all three available versions: Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. New Jersey has cleared the way for many other vaccination sites across the state, including Federally Qualified Health Centers, supermarkets, pharmacies and doctor's offices. Some are accepting appointments or have residency requirements, but others do not. People can visit COVIDvaccine.nj.gov to preregister.
