JERSEY CITY, NJ — Three Dickinson High School students were assaulted and robbed across from the school during their lunch on Wednesday. Moments later, a man, accused of touting and then getting rid of a gun near the school, was arrested. According to Jersey City Public Schools Superintendent Franklin Walker, the two incidents are separate and unrelated. The three high school students left the campus for their lunch, Walker said, which is allowed at Dickinson High School, although school officials encourage students to stay on campus. The students went to the Hudson Gardens public housing complex across from the school for lunch and were robbed and assaulted there. "The students are doing okay, it wasn't too serious, but they were roughed up," Walker said. He added that around the same time, police were chasing men they believed were holding guns, but the two incidents were not related. "I think the stories just snowballed and meshed together," Walker said. The incident involving the man with a gun happened around 11:30 a.m. when police spotted four men, three with ski masks and one with a gun in his waistband, walking on Palisades Avenue, according to the Jersey Journal. Walker said the man was arrested near the school and the gun, that is presumed to be his, was also dropped near the school. One of the four men was caught and arrested.
