San Diego County Reports 894 New COVID Cases, 12 Deaths, 24 More Patients Hospitalized

By Editor, Times of San Diego September 24, 2021 San Diego County's Health and Human Services Agency on Thursday reported 894 new cases of COVID-19 and 12 more deaths. The numbers again include batch tests and cases that would have been reported beginning Sept. 14, but were not due to a reporting error between the county and medical providers. With the new data, the county's total number of coronavirus cases rose to 352,019. The death toll stands at 4,039 since the pandemic began in early 2020. In addition, 24 more people needed to be admitted to the hospital for COVID treatment, and one patient required intensive care. The county confirmed 37 new community outbreaks in the past seven days: 18 in grade school settings, four in businesses, five in restaurants/bars, three in daycare/preschool/childcare settings, two in government settings, one in a college/university, one in a construction zone, two in a grocery or retail store and one in a healthcare setting. The county recorded 33,615 new tests, as the seven-day average of positives slipped to 3.7%. Meanwhile, for those who qualify for booster shots, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Thursday that the state immediately will begin providing them with the Pfizer vaccine. – City News Service contributed to this report.
