First, today's weather: Clear throughout the day. High: 89 Low: 54. Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: Sacramento is trying a new approach to intervention in certain mental health situations. When someone called for help in the past, they would get either the police or the fire department. Now, there is a third option. They can be connected to the Department of Community Response (DCR). The DCR was formed with a goal of de-escalation and support in situations where intervention is needed. The city council recently fully funded the team, agreeing to spend $5 million toward their efforts. The team now responds to hundreds of calls a week meeting people where they are with support services and a listening ear and seeing success stories daily. While they are now working only Monday through Friday, the team hopes to expand coverage to seven days a week as they ramp up staffing. (Good Day Sacramento)Sacramento police are investigating a homicide in the area of Northgate Park. When police arrived at the scene they found a man with life threatening injuries. The man was later declared dead at the scene. Police believe an altercation escalated to homicide. Police are asking anyone with information to call the department at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357. (KCRA3) It's definitely not happy trails for Trail Brothers, the company that leads the guided horseback rides at Gibson Ranch. Following an accident at an 8-year-old's birthday party last month the county started an investigation into the company. At the conclusion of the investigation the county sent a termination letter to Trail Brothers citing issues where the "general public have incurred serious injuries…" and "…the nature and severity of the incidents of record suggest that Trail Brothers has failed to exercise reasonable and due diligence." Trail Brothers lawyers are trying to get the county to reconsider, or at least give them more time to move their 30-plus horses. (CBS Sacramento) A Sacramento man is being detained in ICE custody based on a sealed piece of evidence. A Sacramento group has filed a motion to unseal that evidence and hopefully get the case of Omar Ameen "unstuck." Ameen was detained on charges of murder in Iraq that a Sacramento Federal Judge deemed "simply not possible." But before Ameen could process out of Sacramento County Jail he was taken into custody by ICE, where he still is today. The group is hoping that unsealing the evidence will help either with extradition to Iraq (which they don't feel will be the outcome) or releasing Ameen to be with his family as the case proceeds in court. (The People's Vanguard of Davis) With copious help from the public the UC Davis Medical Center patient that has been unable to identify himself has been identified. "UC Davis Medical Center cannot release his name due to patient privacy laws," UC Davis Health said in a statement on Thursday. "The team taking care of the patient is grateful to callers for their help that led to this successful outcome. The patient asks for privacy at this time." Neighbors have said they know the man as "Paco." You may recognize the area as it is home to such Sacramento icons as Corti Brothers and the restaurant Español (which sounds Spanish but was actually very traditional Italian). The Catholic Church even holds services in Italian. Traditions there abound and now it has an official designation to go with! Dave's Pumpkin Patch is OPEN!! Do you love the tractor train, the corn maze or the hot apple cider cinnamon doughnuts the most? Whatever your favorite tradition, it's time!
