NORTH VERSAILLES, PA — The Haunted Hills Hayride is reopening Friday, two weeks after a shooting there that killed a 15-year-old Central Catholic High School student. New security measures are now in place, the popular Halloween attraction announced via social media. "Please be patient entering our facility as each person will be subject to a search for illegal- prohibited items by a hired security company," a post on the hayride Facebook page stated. On Sept. 10, Steven Eason, 15, of Wilmerding, was shot in the chest and stomach after attempting to intervene in a dispute at the hayride between an acquaintance and another teen who shot them both. Eason died from his wounds; the other teen, a Penn Hills High School student, was shot in the shoulder but survived. Allegheny County police are investigating and have not yet identified a suspect. Anyone being searched found carrying any of the following items will be turned over to law enforcement: Firearms, ammunition, knives and weapons of any kind, self-defense or restraining devices, (pepper spray, mace, tasers, etc.), drugs-controlled substances or alcohol. Additionally, anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Drop-offs and loitering are not permitted at the hayride.
