Tina Filipiak Retires From Will County State's Attorney's Office

JOLIET, IL — A longtime member of the Will County State's Attorney's Office is retiring Friday after serving as the juvenile division chief of criminal prosecutions since the early 1990s. Tina Filipiak joined the Will County State's Attorney's Office in 1992 after working in Minnesota for the Hennepin County Attorney's Office. She began her tenure as Juvenile Division Chief in Will County that same year. As chief of the Juvenile Division, Filipiak has supervised all prosecutions involving minors in Will County. The Juvenile Division also prosecutes parents who abuse or neglect their children. In the most serious abuse and neglect cases, the Division litigates the termination of parental rights. Image via Will County State's Attorney's Office In 2018, Filipiak received the Distinguished Service Award from the Illinois Juvenile Officers Association, as well as a certificate of recognition from the Illinois Senate to commemorate her statewide honor. Additionally, Filipiak was named 2010 State's Attorney of the Year by the Illinois State Crime Commission. "Tina Filipiak is a passionate leader who supervises the finest team of Juvenile Division prosecutors in Illinois," Glasgow said at the time of Filipiak's 2018 award. "She brings tremendous knowledge, experience, compassion and common sense to court with her every single day. She has dedicated her entire career to protecting our children and holding juvenile offenders accountable for their actions. She richly deserves this honor." According to the Will County State's Attorney's Office, Filipiak was also a member of the Aurora Sub Region Child Death Review Team, which is a partner of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. She received her bachelor's degree in Wisconsin at Saint Norbert College in DePere and she earned her Juris Doctorate from Hamline University School of Law in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
