LAGUNA BEACH, CA — The city of Laguna Beach and Southern California Edison reported a widespread power outage early Friday morning. Nearly 3,500 residents and businesses were affected by this outage, Edison reports.
That number was reduced to 1,600 as of 9:30 a.m. as the power company works to resolve the outage.
The original power outage began just after 6:45 a.m. for unknown reasons, according to a SoCal Edison spokesperson.
Edison workers evaluated the nature of the problem and repair crews were notified, they said.
"There was some equipment failure in the area," SoCal Edison spokeswoman Gabriella Ornelas told Patch. "We are investigating the cause of the outage and our crews are working to restore power as soon as possible."
There was no estimate given as to the length of the outage as of this report.
