BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell is getting involved in the Bucks County District Attorney's race, which he is calling the county's "most important" contest on the ballot this year. In an op-ed published Friday by the Bucks County Courier Times, Rendell endorsed Democrat Antonetta Stancu's campaign to unseat incumbent Republican District Attorney Matt Weintraub. The former governor said Stancu is the "clear choice for the best candidate" for district attorney, lauding her experience as a federal prosecutor, assistant district attorney in Bronx County, New York, and Bucks County deputy district attorney. Stancu is currently a partner at the Schatz & Stancu law firm in Doylestown. Rendell said he is throwing his support behind Stancu for "two main reasons." "She's one of the smartest attorneys I've ever met and she's tough as nails," he wrote in the op-ed. "With Antonetta, Bucks County will have a district attorney who will be tough but fair — someone who will keep them safe and understands that the reach of the law and the responsibilities of her job extend well beyond the courtroom," Rendell wrote. Weintraub is seeking a second term as Bucks County District Attorney. He was appointed to the position in 2016 and was elected to a full term in November 2017. Weintraub and Stancu are both residents of Doylestown Township.
