ELMHURST, IL — Three Cook County youths have been charged with breaking into cars in Elmhurst on Wednesday night, authorities said. The three are from Hazel Crest and are 13, 15 and 17. The 13-year-old was in possession of a loaded 9 mm pistol with one bullet in the chamber, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. Police reported the burglaries in the 900 block of Hillcrest Avenue, the 900 block of Linden Avenue and the 300 block of Yorkfield Avenue. About 10:30 p.m., Elmhurst police responded to a call about the youths pulling on car doors, attempting to enter cars, police said. They are accused of entering three cars and burglarizing one of them. "The allegations against these juveniles are outrageous," State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the news release. "Violent crime has no place in a civilized society, and in DuPage County, it will be met with the full force of the law, regardless of the defendant's age. I commend those residents who alerted authorities when they suspected foul play." The youths were charged with one count of burglary of a motor vehicle and two counts of criminal trespass to a motor vehicle. The 13-year-old with a gun was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. A DuPage County judge ordered the youths be placed on electronic monitoring and returned home, according to the release.
