BERKELEY, CA — The Berkeley Police Department announced its Traffic Bureau will conduct a DUI and driver's license checkpoint Friday.
Officers will be in the area of Telegraph Avenue and Stuart Street on September 24, the police department said. Police did not specify a time.
Police "will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, with officers checking drivers for proper licensing, delaying motorists only momentarily," BPD said in a Nixle alert. "When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving, which now accounts for a growing number of impaired driving crashes."
Berkeley Police encourages drivers to download the Designated Driver VIP app for Android and iPhone. This app helps people find a ride after they have been drinking, and shows designated drivers free incentives such as free appetizers and non-alcoholic drinks.
