Male Blue and Gold Macaw

Description

I have an 18 year old male Blue and Gold macaw I wish to rehome. I will be upfront; I am asking for $1700 since he has seen the veterinarian on many occasions, (not for anything more than check-ups or beak/nail trims) he is fed good chop, pellets and raw nuts, he will come with many toys, a large Kaytee stand and a giant loveseat-sized corner cage. I will definitely lower this price if I find him the right home. This isn't about money for us. It's breaking me apart having to do this, but my health isn't getting better and he deserves a loving forever home and more attention. A little about my guy: he is absolutely gorgeous. He has never plucked, has great blood work, no medical issues, and is very talkative. He wants attention all the time, but isn't too loud and obnoxious. He can be a little loud in the mornings, but calms down after about a half hour. He hates anything green, so green toys are destroyed immediately and his veggies have to be mixed with other colors in order for this picky boy to eat it. Like most macaws, he nips. I've gotten bit a few times for sure but nothing I can not handle. He is still weary about hands from a past home where there was abuse but with soft talking and lots of neck rubs, he will trust you. He loves to show off and be around people and even does great in the car. He is such a handsome, sweet boy who deserves the world and I pray I find someone who can give him just that. I thought it was me, but God had different plans and I must accept it and make sure my boy is happy. Now the parts that make macaws the number one most surrendered pet: He is MESSY. The seeds, chop and water will create mold and a bad smell if not taken care of quickly. His screams can be LOUD so if you live in an apartment or condo, or you have neighbors who cannot handle noise, he is not the one for you. He WILL bite you, no matter what. It can take months or more to establish love and trust with him. These birds have the cognitive similarity of a toddler, so he feeds off emotion and can sense if you're scared. That is when he will lash. Not hard, but enough to get you nervous of that giant beak. He is destructive. I've replaced many dining room chairs and door/window frames that he's gotten a hold of. These birds are sensitive to almost everything. Nothing can be used to clean the cage besides vinegar and water, or specially formulated cleaning solutions just for macaws. No scents around him, no cleaning his area with strong Pine Sol. They are expensive! I spent about 600 dollars on toys, and we have two left. His vet bill runs about 100 dollars for a normal check up, and then about 80 each time for a beak/nail trim. I go about three to four times a year. There's so much more, but he is a lifelong companion. He will live to about 70 years old, possibly longer. I just want the best home for him. Someone with a little experience, maybe works at home or has a lot of time for him. (I worked overnights so I was gone when he was sleeping and got home when he woke up so it was like I never left.) I am sorry for the rambling! Please message me if you're truly interested. Please don't message me asking "how much" or short sentences like that. I want to find him a permanent, loving home where he can florish and create memories with the right person. Is it you?
