Meets

265 W 37th St, New York City NY

Description

EVERY Wednesday 7:00-9:00pm--Any musician who wants to understand and play jazz today has to know the language of Bebop. The style, born in the '40s until the early '60s, is the root of the modern jazz language. The goal of the course is to explain the nature of this music through the analysis of compositions by major musicians of that era: Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, etc. This class allows you to play as much as possible while touching on the specific concepts of Bebop. It focuses on the sound and interplay of the band and allows students to grow as musicians and artists in an improvisational setting. Intermediate level.
