Description

Learn about atoms, electrons, open and closed circuits, conductors and insulators. In Introduction to Electricity, students will learn about atoms, electrons, open and closed circuits, conductors and insulators.  Students will model an electric current by passing electrons along our ‘human circuit’ made of classmates. Students will empirically learn about open and closed circuits by experimenting with energy sticks, which light up and make sound when a current is present. In addition, we will explore what conductors and insulators are, by including in our circuit various objects (ruler, metal spoon, plastic spoon, straws, pipe cleaners etc). Students will also learn that their body is a conductor and has current. Recommended Donation amount for this event is $7 - $10. This event is sponsored by Discover STEAM Inc (DSI), an educational 501C3 nonprofit focused on equity in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics education. Donation is optional, with DSI finances will not be an obstacle to learning. OUR MISSION: To provide engaging STEAM activities to all youth with a focus on including under-served, under-represented and/or disadvantaged students to promote college and career interests in STEAM. OUR VISION: For all children to be nurtured in communities that foster curiosity, collaboration, confidence, stewardship, and self-directed exploration to become 21st century innovators and problem solvers.
