WALTHAM, MA — Two Waltham High School students have been named semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program, said the school in a news release.
Alexander Arnell and Samuel Silver are two of 16,000 students nationwide chosen for the semifinalist round. Out of these students, 7,500 will go on to earn a total of nearly $30 million in scholarships in the spring.
High school juniors entered the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of entrants. Less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors make the cut, and to become a finalist, students must submit a detailed application.
The 2022 National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in four news releases beginning in April and ending in July. These scholarship recipients will join more than 362,000 other students who have earned the Merit Scholar title.
