BLUE POINT, NY — The GoFundMe page dedicated to raising money for Gabby Petito's family will continue to cover general expenses incurred by the search and effort to bring her home, and the remaining funds will be donated to a charity, according to the page organizer, Gary Rider.
The roughly $82,000 in funds raised will cover general expenses such as transportation, legal fees, and care of the family "through this difficult period," Rider wrote in an update on Monday.
"The worst fears of any parent have been realized with the recovery of Gabby," he wrote. "We are devastated and heartbroken."
"On behalf of the entire family, we send a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed and donated to help in our search for Gabby," he wrote, adding, "We still do not have the words that seem appropriate to truly express how grateful we are and how uplifting this support has been during this challenging time."
