Press release from the City of Wauwatosa: September 21, 2021 Trick-or-treat while physical distancing or other ways to more safely celebrate the holiday In a typical year, there would be a variety of Halloween events organized in Wauwatosa by various organizations or neighborhood associations. City staff have talked with some of the neighborhoods, and it seems that while some are offering trick-or-treat hours, others may choose not to participate this year due to COVID-19. Health Department Recommendations The best way to protect yourself against COVID-19 is to get vaccinated. Other ways to protect yourself include wearing a mask, physical distancing, avoiding large crowds, and frequent hand washing. Safer ways to celebrate Halloween: Wear a mask while trick-or-treating and stay at least 6 feet away from people you don't live with. If you choose to host or attend a gathering, keep it small and outdoors. Wear a mask and maintain 6 feet of distance from people who you don't live with. If food is being served, avoid potlucks and buffet style food options. Alternative options to traditional trick-or-treating: Individual grab bags or treats outside the door to avoid in-person contact. Candy stations or designated stops in your neighborhood. Drive through trick-or-treating. Host a virtual costume party. Stay home and bake Halloween-themed treats, have a scavenger hunt, or watch scary movies. Stay home if you are sick or have symptoms of COVID-19. See recommendations from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the CDC. City Trick-or-Treat Hours Wauwatosa's trick-or-treat hours are Sunday, October 31, 2021 1-4pm. However, we find that the popularity of these hours is highly dependent upon your neighborhood. Neighborhood Associations Some neighborhood associations may be hosting their own Halloween event. Your neighborhood association might email or mail you details of when they are hosting trick or treat. Ask your neighborhood association for details.
