MARLBOROUGH, MA — Head down to the Marlborough wastewater treatment plant on Oct. 16 to dispose of hazardous items cluttering up your home — everything from old paint thinner to microwaves will be accepted. Here's more from a city of Marlborough press release: The Fall Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will take place on Oct. 16. The collection, hosted by the city of Marlborough and town of Hudson, will occur from 9 a.m. to noon at the Easterly Wastewater Treatment Plant, 860 Boston Post Road East, Marlborough. Residents ofboth communities are invited to bring their hazardous waste along with unwanted and unused prescription drugs. Proof of residency will be required to enter the collection area. "This important collection provides residents the opportunity to responsibly and effectively dispose of potentially hazardous and unwanted products that cannot go in the regular waste stream. I encourage residents to take time and clean out their garages, basements or attics of any hazardous material and dispose of it on the designated collection day," Mayor Arthur Vigeant said. Some examples of items that can be dropped off are air conditioners, car batteries, drain openers, computers, fluorescent bulbs, household cleaners, polishes or batteries, oil-based paints, propane tanks, microwaves, monitors, pesticides, pool chemicals, weed killers, TVs, and much more. Items that will not be accepted are asbestos, explosives, drums, latex/acrylic paint, medical waste, large appliances, radioactive materials, reactive or unstable materials, tires, unknown/unlabeled materials.
