MARBLEHEAD, MA —Marblehead police intend to use a $35,000 federal grant on extra patrols for winter and summer impaired driving, distracted driving, seatbelt enforcement and the purchase of two hand-held speed radar guns.
Police said funds will also go toward bicycle and pedestrian safety education.
The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security's Office of Grants and Research awarded the grant through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration program for Fiscal Year 2022.
"The Department is committed to the safety of all residents and visitors as they travel through our town," Marblehead police said in a statement. "These funds will be used both for educational and enforcement purposes to the benefit of all."
