In response to the Covid crisis, the SF-Marin Food Bank scaled its home-delivery service from approximately 250 deliveries per week to a peak of 12,000 per week since the crisis began. Reporting to the Home-Delivered Groceries Program Manager, this role is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of the delivery service and executing strategies for increasing or decreasing capacity to make deliveries. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES The Distribution Assistant issues food boxes to participants during monthly Supplemental Food Program (SFP) distributions. This program provides supplemental groceries to eligible seniors. RESPONSIBILITIES Issue food boxes to participants at distributions. Provide excellent customer service to program participants. Set up, maintain, and break down boxes in distribution area Use material handling equipment (hand trucks, hand pallet jacks, etc.) Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Use of basic arithmetic to maintain accurate transactions Ability to communicate clearly and concisely Ability to work and interact well with individuals PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to repetitively lift food boxes ranging from 25 lbs. to 40 lbs. as needed during distribution hours ranging from 4 hours to 7 hours WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed at approximately 12 different sites, some with multiple distributions, throughout San Francisco, based in churches, public housing sites and recreation centers Staff is required to work outside in inclement weather when necessary SCHEDULE The schedule changes from week to week The schedule for the month is given a month ahead of time A typical schedule is from 8:30am to 1:30pm (occasionally until 3pm) for 2 to 5 days a week This position is approximately 70-75 hours per month and can vary from 10 to 25 hours a week Additional hours will be available on an as needed basis The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
