Description
LINDENHURST, NY—Lindenhurst community members participated in the annual Christina Renna Foundation Walk-A-Thon and Blood Drive on Sunday, in support of children's cancer research.
The district's athletic teams, coaches, administrators and residents walked at George D. Smawley Memorial Track at Lindenhurst Middle School, to support the foundation's aim to increase awareness of and education about children's cancer.
Christina Renna was a former Lindenhurst student who passed away in 2007 from rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer.
September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. According to the American Cancer Society, after accidents, pediatric cancer is the second leading cause of death in children ages one to 14.
All money raised will benefit children's cancer research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.
