NEW LONDON, CT — A city man accused of mailing cocaine from Puerto Rico to southeastern Connecticut has pleaded guilty, according to a statement from federal prosecutors. Raul Robles, 38, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. According to prosecutors, the U.S. Postal Service intercepted a suspicious package that was destined for a location in Puerto Rico last year. Investigators found the package contained $158,900 in cash and then established a connection between Robles and the seized package. Robles' New London home had received about 25 parcels from Puerto Rico since September 2019, according to prosecutors. Investigators continued to monitor USPS deliveries of parcels mailed from Puerto Rico to Robles' home, including parcels addressed to people who didn't live there. A search of one parcel that had been mailed to a fictitious person at Robles' home was found to have about one kilogram of cocaine. Robles was arrested on a federal criminal complaint on April 9. He is scheduled for sentencing Dec. 14 and faces a maximum prison term of 40 years. Robles is released on a $50,000 bond pending sentencing.
