ACTON, MA — A former Acton-Boxborough Regional School District bus driver has been charged with motor vehicle homicide in the 2019 death of a 20-year-old motorcyclist, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office.
Nancy J. Durost, 73, of Westford was driving a school bus for the Acton-Boxborough Regional School District's field hockey team on Sept. 19, 2019, when police say she allegedly struck the motorcyclist, 20-year-old Steven Welch.
Durost was reportedly attempting to turn left into Westford's Blanchard Middle School when she struck Welch, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The DA's office says no one on the bus was injured.
The Lowell Sun reported Welch was a 2018 graduate of Westford Academy, who was working in the welding industry.
Durost will be arraigned on motor vehicle homicide charges by negligent operation and failing to yield at an intersection on October 15 in Ayer District Court.
