Good morning Connecticut, It looks like rain moves in Thursday afternoon, and it will continue through Friday afternoon. An inch or two of rain is possible and there are some flash flooding concerns, especially in southwest Connecticut. The heaviest rain is projected to fall Thursday night and in the early Friday morning hours. Strong wind gusts are also expected along with isolated severe thunderstorms too. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out either, the National Weather Service said. Specifically, for Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties, the weather service said, "There is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms on Friday. Isolated thunderstorms could produce damaging wind gusts and a brief tornado." There is good news in the forecast and that is the weekend looks perfect with sunshine and temperatures in the 70s. Looking like some active weather for late tonight into Friday morning. A slow-moving front will bring us thunderstorms and gusty winds, with scattered tree damage possible. The payoff is much less humid air by the weekend! #fox61 pic.twitter.com/xdXO2nq1WK— Dan Amarante (@DanAmarante) September 23, 2021 See also: 2 People, Only Assisted Living Staff On Duty, OD On Fentanyl: PD CT Woman Dies After Jersey Shore RescueThousands Of Motorcyclists To Descend On Connecticut In 'Illegal' EventNew Disney Movie To Film At High School In Connecticut Top stories from across Connecticut this morning In New Haven, a scary situation unfolded as shots were fired from a car while students were enjoying recess at Lincoln-Bassett School, WTNH News 8 reports. Thankfully, the students weren't injured, and school personnel quickly got them inside. (Read more at WTNH News 8). It was a day of high emotions in New Britain as the high school went to remote learning on Wednesday due to several fights and the destruction of property at the school, Fox 61 reports. There was talk that remote learning would continue for the remainder of the week, but local officials amended that and said students would return in-person for half-days on Thursday and Friday. (Read more at Fox 61). Prior to the decision being made to return to in-person learning, New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart said on social media, "Everyone knows by now the decision was made to close New Britain high school for the remainder of the week. My office was informed by the school district that this decision was made because of recent issues in controlling student behavior, specifically vandalism and fighting. "I'm disappointed in this decision, it's not fair to the majority of students who behave respectfully and want to be in school to learn. Everyone has a "solution", but what it comes down to is the fact that there are no consequences for bad behavior, and this is the end result. The board of education must make finding a solution to this problem their highest priority. I offer my help as well as the help of the New Britain Police Department. "If the school district cannot get these behavior problems under control, then they need to find new and more effective leadership who can. Our students deserve to learn in a safe environment, our parents deserve the comfort knowing that their child is safe in school, and our teachers deserve a safe space to educate. Those who do not follow the rules should be given REAL consequences, including being removed from the school, plain and simple."
