MARLTON, MD — Police said a Hyattsville man died after a Saturday crash in Marlton. Officers added that the wreck led to four other hospitalizations. Authorities identified the deceased victim as 35-year-old Meguel Albert Holmes. The accident happened around 7:40 p.m. near northbound U.S. Route 301 and Trumps Hill Road, officials noted. Holmes was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Caprice when it crashed into a 2021 Toyota RAV4, an incident report explained. The write-up informed that the Chevrolet then left the roadway and entered the woods. The press release indicated that Holmes was trapped inside the sedan, but troopers and witnesses pulled him out of the car before it fully caught on fire. Police stated that medics took Holmes to the MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, where he died soon after. The quartet of hospitalizations included three occupants of the Toyota SUV and one passerby that helped Holmes, officers mentioned. Authorities wrote that the collision closed the area for five hours. The Maryland State Police did not list the cause of the crash, but it shared that alcohol and drugs do not seem to be a factor. Officials clarified that they are still investigating. Subscribe to your local Patch newsletter. Download our mobile application from the App Store or Google Play. Have a story idea?
