San Diego County Health Officials Report 851 New COVID Cases, 6 More Deaths

By Elizabeth Ireland, Times of San Diego September 23, 2021 The San Diego County Health and Human Services Department on Wednesday reported 851 new cases of COVID-19 and six more deaths. About half of the cases reported Wednesday are from a backlog over the past week due to laboratory connection issues that have since been resolved, according to health officials. The new data increased the county's total coronavirus cases to 351,134. The death toll stands at 4,027 since the pandemic began in early 2020. In addition, 10 more people needed to be admitted to the hospital for COVID treatment. No additional patients, though, required intensive care. The county reported 15,512 new tests, with the seven-day average rate of positives at 3.9%. On the vaccine front, nearly 4.72 million doses have been administered in the county, with about 2.5 million — or 87.7% of county residents — having received at least one dose. Fully vaccinated county residents now number close to 2.2 million, or around 78.2% of the county's eligible population. COVID-19 vaccines are available at no cost throughout San Diego County.
