BERKELEY, CA—The University of California, Berkeley will go ahead with a plan to tear down a rent-controlled building after the last tenants agreed to move out, Berkeleyside reports. The university plans to build a $300 dorm for transfer students. Residents told Berkeleyside the decision was difficult, but felt inevitable. They had been fighting the university's plan since last July, when UC bought the 121-year-old building at 1921 Walnut Street. Read more via Berkeleyside.
