BERKELEY, CA—Tilden Regional Park celebrates its 85th year this year, and the Brazilian Room venue marks its 80th. To celebrate these two East Bay icons, the East Bay Regional Park District and the Regional Parks Foundation are hosting celebrations on Saturday, September 25.
The festivities begin at the Environmental Education Center in the Tilden Nature Area at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the park district. There will be history exhibits, cake, and a performance by the BluesBox Bayou Band, a Cajun-Zydeco music group. The celebration at Tilden lasts until 12:30 p.m.
From 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Brazilian Room, there will be exhibits, activities, history talks, and music by samba band Boca Do Rio. There will also be food and refreshments, including a new beer called Tilden Hazy IPA from Headlands Brewing Company.
All are welcome, and are asked to RSVP to Monique Salas at [email protected]. Masks are required.
Tilden Regional Park is one of the Park District's three original parks, and provides 2,079 acres of nature and wildlife. It was named for Charles Lee Tilden, the first president of the Park District Board of Directors, according to the district. The Brazilian Room was presented as a gift to the East Bay Regional Park District by the Brazilian government after the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition. It has served as a venue and gathering place for the past 80 years.
