Here are the top stories in Atlanta today: Ground was broken Wednesday morning for the long-awaited upgrades and repairs to DeKalb Avenue and Decatur Street. The Atlanta City Council unanimously approved legislation in June to spend $5.4 million on the improvement project. Upgrades will include removal of the reversible lane, the addition of a dedicated left turn lane, bike lanes along certain sections of the thoroughfare, and road resurfacing and sidewalk repairs. (Atlanta Intown)A woman was rescued from a 90-year-old Atlanta home on Tuesday morning after it was crushed by a tree. Firefighters were sent to the house in the 1300 block of McLendon Avenue just after 7:15 a.m., and found one woman trapped inside. The large home had been subdivided into multiple apartments, and the other two residents were were able to leave the house without assistance.
